Christmas Religious Poems & Christian Christmas Poems
Christmas religious poems are a lovely way to spread the true meaning of Christmas. I have selected extracts from a wide range of classical and traditional Christian Christmas poems that are perfect for Christmas greeting card verses and Christmas newsletters. My friend Milly makes an Advent calendar every year for her two little girls, and she fills it with poems and quotes (and treats too!). Another lovely use for these beautiful poems. Enjoy browsing my collection of Christmas religious poems, and let me know if you have a favourite poem that you would like to see in this collection.

Extract from On the Morning of Christ's Nativity~ by John Milton This is the month, and this the happy morn Wherein the Son of Heav'n's eternal King, Of wedded Maid, and Virgin Mother born, Our great redemption from above did bring; For so the holy sages once did sing, That he our deadly forfeit should release, And with his Father work us a perpetual peace.
Extract from A Hymn on the Nativity of My Savior~ Ben JonsonThe Son of God, the eternal King, That did us all salvation bring, And freed the soul from danger; He whom the whole world could not take, The Word, which heaven and earth did make, Was now laid in a manger.
Extract from Music on Christmas Morning~ Anne BronteTo greet with joy the glorious morn, Which angels welcomed long ago, When our redeeming Lord was born, To bring the light of Heaven below; The Powers of Darkness to dispel, And rescue Earth from Death and Hell.
The Oxen~ Thomas HardyChristmas Eve, and twelve of the clock 'Now they are all on their knees.' An elder said as we sat in a flock By the embers in hearthside ease. We pictured the meek mild creatures where They dwelt in their strawy pen Nor did it occur to one of us there To doubt they were kneeling then. So fair a fancy few would weave In these years! Yet I feel, If someone said on Christmas Eve, 'Come, see the oxen kneel.' In the lonely barton by yonder coomb Our childhood used to know I should go with him in the gloom, Hoping it might be so.
Perhaps a bit long for a Christmas greeting card message, but one of my favourite Christmas religious poems because it is so delightfully innocent.
