Dust Bunny Pet Homemade Gag Gift

by Jane
(UK)

I gave this as a house-warming gift. A couple of friends of mine were moving into a new flat, and had complained that the landlord wouldn't let them keep a pet. Not that they had a pet anyway, but it's the principle of the thing, right?

So for the house warming party, I gave them a pet that they would be allowed... a dust bunny! I collected the dust from under my bed (ewww) and put it in a shoe box with some breathing holes punched in, and labelled it "Pet Bunny - my name is Dusty".

As you can imagine, they didn't know what to make of it at all when the saw the labelled box. But when they opened the lid they realised what I'd done and we all had a laugh.

I don't think they kept Dusty though. Poor little guy.

Cute but also kind of icky

Thanks for sharing, Jane! What a clever homemade gag gift. As someone who's rented a lot, I can definitely identify with the "no pets" problem.

Dryer lint
by: MarySue

As I was reading this, I thought of the handful of lint that I had just cleaned out of the clothes dryer vent screen. I'm sure with a little effort it could be formed into a reasonable semblance of a "bunny". Maybe some hairspray would help it hold it's shape. Perhaps with little doll-maker eyes and construction paper ears that you could find at the local hobby/craft store. Easter grass for bedding in the box. Depending on the size, raisin "droppings" could be added. I'm definitely going to have do this one!!

Dryer lint, LOL
by: Tobias

MarySue, I love the idea of using hairspray and actually shaping it into a bunny shape. Genius. I can just see it. Will have to give that one a go. Plus little goggly eyes like you said 8-)
