I asked my daughter Meg what she sees in her mind when she thinks of her Grandmother. She told me "Rainbows, pretty flowers and a BIG smile on Grandma!"

I wanted to make something that both my young daughter and I could create together and give to her Grandma. She drew the picture, I transferred the drawing to muslin and embroidered her sweet drawing. Now Grandma will have her favorite little artist's artwork forever captured with needle and thread.

What materials did you use to make your Mother's day present?

To make the embroidered child's drawing, the materials I used were:

  • embroidery hoop
  • needle
  • thread
  • muslin
  • child's drawing
  • ribbon

How did you make the Mother's day gift?

Have your child draw a picture. Take the drawing and place muslin over it and lightly trace the child's artwork. Embroider the drawing. Tie the ribbon into a bow at the top of the hoop.

Anything else you'd like to share about your homemade Mother's day present?

I used an embroidery hoop as a frame but you could also use a regular frame or even sew a fun little pillow using your child's artwork!
