Fruit Bowl from a Melted Vinyl Record

Melted record fruit bowl from an old Andy Williams LP
I made these melted record fruit bowls with some old LPs I found at a charity store. They were really easy to make. I'm going to give one of them to a friend as a house warming present.
To make the square one, I just melted it in the steam over a saucepan of boiling water and shaped it by hand. (I wore rubber gloves to protect my hands.)
Trying not to burn my handsFor the round one, I actually managed to submerge the whole record into the boiling water to get it really melted and soft. I had to melt and fold it a bit in the steam first to get it small enough to fit into the saucepan. Once it was in there, it went really quite soft, almost like spaghetti or something.
Vinyl SoupThen I fished it out of the boiling water and squashed it into a mixing bowl as a mould for the shape. It cooled down and hardened really quickly so I had to be fast. Actually I didn't get it right the first time but the good thing is you can remelt it as many times as you want.
By the way I've heard of other people making these bowls by putting the records in the oven but I really didn't like the idea of plastic fumes in my oven. So I think boiling water is better. I didn't smell any bad fumes.
Anyway I hope you like them. I know the photos aren't great but at least you get the idea!
