A very British way to decorate your house this Christmas!

First of all I cross stitched each of the individual letters onto triangular pieces of 16 count Aida fabric (red & white) leaving 15 blocks above the letters. Each triangle measures 4" across the top and 5" vertically.

Once all of the cross stitch was complete I then cut out matching pieces of red & white gingham checked fabric for the backing and machine stitched them together (leaving the top edge open for turning the right way.

I used 13mm bunting tape for the top, but you could use any bias binding or cotton tape. I folded the tape across the open tops of the flags and sewed them in on the machine leaving about 15" of tape at each end for tying them up. I made both a single length Merry Christmas and divided the words up on another so you can string them above and below each other - see the photos below for examples.

You could stitch any letters on the front or just use different coloured fabrics and no stitching - but as I love cross stitch this was my own design and I've stitched plenty for friends too!

It looks great! I can't believe you designed your own cross-stitch letters... the calligraphy looks so perfect!
