Corkboard Set
This Mothers day craft project is wonderful for Mom's who like to be organized!
My mom adores baking. When my siblings and I were still in school and finances were really tight, my mom would help make ends meet by getting cake orders from officemates and friends. Even now when three of us four children are already working and funds are enough to get by, she still does it for the joy and fulfillment baking gives her.
The last time I went home to see her, I noticed she was using a chalkboard to keep track of daily orders. Knowing full well chalkboards mean dust and allergies, I decided to make her a cork board where she can pin small remind-me notes. I added pen and notepad holders to make it a complete set.
For the cork board:
Mothers day craft materials:
~ illustration board (for the base)
~ cork board
~ adhesives (quick-dry glue and double-sided tape)
~ a happy picture! Mine is one of my mom, my sister and me..the girls of the family :)
~ patterned papers. I bought the striped one from a local supply store. The rest are from Lily Bee collections.
~ embellishments (rub-ons, lace, flowers, gem stickers, a buckle and anything else you want to use)
Instructions:
~ Cover your illustration board with the striped paper.
~ Mount your cork board to your illustration board, leaving some extra space at the top for your picture and embellishments.
~ Embellish as desired.
Some things you might want to try and know:
..Give your photo a bit of dimension by gluing it to a patterned paper to create a border.
..Move embellishments around as many times as you can to see all your "finished look" options. Try not to glue anything in place unless you're 101% certain you want it there.
..Shadows around the small squares are made by distressing the edges. This is done by running an ink pad (brown ink pad in this case) very lightly around the edges of the squares.
..The small squares are mounted using foam tape for dimension.
..The letters M-A-M-A and the vine background are stamped images. All the rest are rub-ons including the header "HAP.PI.NESS".
For the pen holder:
Mothers day craft materials:
~ a deep canister. Try to recycle. I used a can from Pik-Nik for mine.
~ the same striped patterned paper used for the cork board.
~ embellishments. I used embellishments that I also used in the cork board to match.
~ an extra strip of the striped paper. We'll use this later.
Instructions (see picture above for illustration):
~ Wrap your canister with the patterned paper and embellish.
~ Take your extra strip of the paper and position in such a way that it creates a checkered pattern.
~ Use double-sided tape to adhere.
For the notepad holder:
Mothers day craft materials:
~ a small box
~ the same striped pattern paper used above
~ a credit card protection sleeve
~ patterned paper cut to the size of a calling or credit card
~ a small calendar (cut out or printed)
~ embellishments
Instructions (see picture above for illustration):
~ Cut out the top of your box.
~ Wrap the box with patterned paper and set aside.
~ Take out your credit card holder and cut out an unused protection sleeve.
~ Adhere the sleeve to your box using double-sided tape.
~ Adhere your cut or printed calendar to the calling-card-sized patterned paper and insert into the card sleeve.
~ Embellish as desired. Just remember to do it on the sleeve and not on the calendar! Otherwise, you'll have a pretty tough time inserting the calendar into the sleeve. :)
I asked my mom to choose where she would want the notepad holder: stuck to the pen holder, or mounted on the cork board. She chose the cork board, so on the cork board it is.
