I really had fun recycling & altering this easy pin cushion jar! These pretty decorative jars are great for holding buttons, ribbons, sewing notions, twine, bits & baubles, and many other things.
So don't throw those empty jars away, alter them!
What materials did you use for your Mother's Day present?
- A Medium/Large Glass Jar
- Ribbons
- Lace Remnant Pieces
- Beaded Trim
- Glass Bead Fabric Trim
- Braided Cord Trim
- Felt Material
- Head Pins
- Scissors
- Hot Glue Gun
How did you make it? I started my project by working on the lid. Cutting the felt material into circles using my jar lid as a template. I cut 6 felt circles to layer on top of lid, using a hot glue gun to attach.
I then cut lace pieces in slightly larger circles to cover felt, and lid rim (make sure not to go over the rim with lace, to ensure your lid will close properly). I put braided corded trim around lid rim to cover any unsightly lace edges.
The lid was topped with a fabric flower & little head pins to finish!
The fun part: layering, and gluing pretty lace, ribbons and different trims around jar. I laid my jar on its side & experimented by laying & placing the lace & trims on jar, until I found the look I liked before hot gluing them on.
I embellished with pearl head pins and little ribbon bows attached to front & sides of jar.
Giving the gift of handmade is sure to please any mom!
