Recycle Bouquet for Mom
Show Mom you learned her thrifty ways with this recyled project.
What materials did you use to make your recycled bouquet?
- bottom of 1/2 gal juice jugs
- florist wire and tape
- twigs
- green felt
- ribbon two colors
- vase
- chenille stem
- nippers
- acrylic paint
- brush
- heat gun
- exacto knife
How did you make your homemade mother's day present? Wash the jugs and carefully cut the bottom circle out of them. Mine were Simply Orange juice jugs and had a flower look to them I thought.
I painted each flower differently, just use your imagination. Two of them I decopauged tissue paper to the back of them.
After they are dry lay them in a glass container and shape them into a narrow V. Hold the plastic down with a fork and apply heat. As the plastic softens put pressure to it so it slides down into the container until you get as much shape as you want.
Drill two holes in the bottom of each flower and run your florist wire up and then back down through the second hole, twist the wire around the end of a twig. Wrap the twig with florist wire adding leaves you cut from your felt along the stem in the upper third of the stem. Repeat for each flower.
Make a bow from your two ribbons, I used a wire edged ribbon for the wide ribbon and added a green 1/4" ribbon for some zing.
Arrange the flowers in a vase and present your thrifty bouquet to your very special Mother.
Anything else you'd like to share about your homemade mother's day present? This project has a total cost of less than $3 and I know my Mother would appreciate the fact that I made it especially for her. I lost my Mother in 2008 but I know she would love it.
