What Colors Are the Planets?

Want your planets to look super authentic? Each planet in our solar system has its own unique color. This is made by its atmosphere, as well as surface features. Here's our rundown of the predominant colors of each planet:

Mercury's surface is mainly gray with some darker patches. This planet has lots of rocky terrain that's a mixture of gray and brown hues.

Venus is yellowish or cream-colored due to its thick, sulfuric acid-filed atmosphere that reflects the sunlight. Fun Fact - its surface is hidden beneath dense clouds, so its true color is difficult to know!

As we know, Earth has vibrant blue oceans and green land masses, giving it a mainly blue and green appearance when seen from space. Be sure to add in a few yellow deserts and white clouds too!

Mars is known as the "Red Planet" for good reason! Iron oxide (rust) is common on its surface, giving the planet a reddish-orange hue. Martian landscapes feature shades of brown, tan, and even blue in some areas. Check out ideas on mixing orange and blue.

Jupiter's atmosphere consists of hydrogen and helium, which give the planet a striped look with bands of yellow, brown, and white. The Great Red Spot, a huge storm, adds a reddish tone to its southern hemisphere.

Saturn's standout feature is its awe-inspiring rings, which are made of icy particles. The planet itself has a pale-yellow hue, with subtle bands of color similar to Jupiter.

Uranus looks bluish-green, as it has methane in its atmosphere. Its color could be described as cyan or aquamarine. Check out ideas on mixing blue and green.

Neptune's atmosphere contains methane, giving it a similar bluish appearance to Uranus. However, Neptune appears darker and more vibrant blue, with occasional hints of green.
