Octopus coloring pages bring one of Earth's most intelligent biological wonders home for your creativity. A couple months back, I bundled up late at night and squished over wet, exposed beach in the cold and dark. It was all worth it when I discovered that the exceptional low tide exposed an octopus right there on the beach! These creatures are just so cool, and seeing one in person is something I can only match by collecting all the octopus coloring pages I can get my hands on.

Shocking Octopus Facts

Octopuses (yes, that’s the correct plural form; not octopi) are truly fascinating creatures. There are so many cool things you can learn about them while coloring your octopus coloring pages. These facts blew my mind!

Predators

Octopuses are great predators. They’ll eat all sorts of things, including fish, birds, sea otters, whales, and even humans (gulp!). Equipped with venom, they are more than capable of both catching their prey and defending themselves. The ink they squirt helps as well.

Built for Stealth

Despite all that firepower, octopuses can be quite stealthy (maybe something to keep in mind while coloring your octopus coloring pages. Have them blend into the background to make them super sneaky). They can camouflage themselves to look like their surroundings. You could swim right past one and not even know it!

A Lot of Heart

Octopuses have three hearts. That’s right, three! And those hearts are pumping blue blood around their bodies. How weird is that?

Even More Brains

But their hearts are nothing compared to their brains. They’ve got one central big brain, and then eight “mini brains” in their arms. That’s because their arms (don’t call them tentacles) can operate independently, tasting, feeling, even processing information all on their own.

Putting All Those Brains to Use

All those brains aren’t purely for show. Octopuses are super smart. Scientists have found that they are intelligent enough to use tools both for hunting prey and to protect themselves. They can even solve puzzles and recognize familiar faces. And get this - some scientists believe they might be able to dream!

More Animal Coloring Pages

Octopuses are super cool, but if you want to expand your home aquarium or zoo, you might want to pick up a few of these other animal coloring pages.
