I grew up next to a horse farm and even had family members who owned horses. It's no exaggeration to say that I was obsessed with horses as a kid. Being on top of a horse is a feeling like no other. It is exhilarating and downright freeing. There’s something about riding that makes your worries float away. Maybe it’s because horses are so free themselves? Is it that we wish that we could just run through miles and miles of open field without a care in the world?

Horses are such powerful, majestic creatures. Throughout history, they were used in times of war, for farm work, as modes of transport, and so much more. Even though we still use them for light farm work, since technology has exploded, we typically see horses in show and sport. More importantly, we have horses as companions.

Below, you’ll find all our printable horse pictures for children and adults. Don’t forget—you can download all our images and make a personal coloring book of your own!

Get Crafty with Our Horse Coloring Pages

Coloring pages are more than just a rainy-day activity. They’re there for us to find our Zen place, our happy place, to finally unwind and express ourselves. Coloring activities have been proven to calm the mind and body, plus help with development and communication in children. Below are some fun ideas for your colored-in designs!

Make Your Own Coloring Book!

This is the most obvious thing we can do with our coloring sheets! Print out all your favorite images and begin assembling your book. You can place these printables in any order you’d like. For quick and easy assembly, punch holes in the left side (or right—up to you!) of your printed pages and place them in a binder. Take them out to color for easier access!

Don’t forget to print extras for second tries! Also, it’s really fun to experiment with different colors on each design. What would a horse look like if it were pink or purple or even blue? It’s time to get crazy and color what’s in your heart.

Home Décor

If your favorite animals are horses, then these pages are for you. Your home is a reflection of you, and you should be excited to come home and see all your hard work. There’s nothing more satisfying than entering a room and seeing a piece of artwork that you (or a loved one) completed.

Not only can you pin the pages on the refrigerator, but you can take it one step further. Laminate or place the pages in plastic sleeves and display your decorative binder on the coffee table as a talking piece. You can also frame your masterpieces and hang them around your home! Do not be afraid to show off your artwork. You are proud of what you did, flaunt it! If it brings you joy—hang it up on that wall! You do you!

Party Decorations

You can’t deny how fun it is to color. It’s one of the few things that kids can agree on—coloring is fun! But what are you going to do with those activity pages once the kids are done? Party Decorations.

Now, I know we like to have everything decorated and ready to go for the party—trust me, I’m a little neurotic when it comes to throwing parties—but hear me out. At the start of the party, have guests arrive “early,” and allow the kids to help you decorate! Give them their own coloring page and the chance to hang their work where they like (in a designated area, of course!). This gives you the opportunity to catch up with your adult guests, and who doesn’t need a moment with adult friends?

Practice for Fanart

Who doesn’t love good fanart? If you’re a lover of Black Beauty or Spirit, for example, it’s your time to shine! Or, color our pages to your heart’s desire and paste them into your own story. You can use these images to enhance your storytelling.

Even better, create a children’s book with your little one! It’ll be a fun, creative keepsake for years to come. Twenty years from now, your child will be tickled to find that story that they made up with you. Plus, there’s nothing more satisfying than creating a story and illustrating it too!

Hang a Gallery

Going along the lines of home décor and making your own coloring book, you can also decorate your home with a galleria. If you want to contain all your artwork in one space, you might want to frame them and create a collage on a wall in your home. The best part about making your own galleria is that you can have a constant rotation of your favorite art pieces. This means that you can print off as many of our free printables as you’d like—even from some of our other coloring pages! Don’t limit yourself to all the possibilities!

Personally, I like to print multiples of the same image and color them in different color schemes. For example, I might color one image in gray tones, another in a warm color scheme (yellows and reds), and another in cool color scheme (blues and purples). Then, I’ll take the three framed masterpieces and hang them side by side. Be bold and color in six to nine images to create a block of different color schemes. The sky is the limit!

Binder Covers

When I was growing up, binder covers were all the rage. Decorating your binder was not only a rite of passage but a way to express yourself. Honestly, this habit lasted well into my college years. I used the decoration and different colored binders to differentiate which subject was contained.

If you have a binder with a clear sleeve on the front, slipping in a fancy-colored horse image is a must. Another idea is to cut and paste portions of our images onto binders (and notebooks!) to create a new image. Don’t be afraid to get crafty! And don’t forget to label which subject the binder contains!
